Richard Stallman over Cloud Computing

Richard Stallman, de oprichter van de Free Software Foundation en maker van het computer operating system GNU, heeft zich uitgelaten over Cloud Computing: “One reason you should not use web applications to do your computing is that you lose control. It’s just as bad as using a proprietary program. Do your own computing on your own computer with your copy of a freedom-respecting program. If you use a proprietary program or somebody else’s web server, you’re defenceless. You’re putty in the hands of whoever developed that software.”

Eerder deze week liet ook Larry Ellison van Oracle zijn gedachten gaan over hetzelfde fenomeen.

En ook Steve Balmer had een mening: “I think when people talk about cloud computing they’re talking about taking some stuff, putting it outside the firewall, and perhaps putting it on servers that are also shared–or storage systems–that are also shared, perhaps with other companies that they know nothing about.”

ps. Lees ook Stallman zijn gedachten eens over het nut van de browser.
