Het rommelt in de gelederen van Yahoo. Semel heeft nog niet koud zijn scepter overgedragen aan Yang, of Rupert Murdoch – eigenaar van News Corp – probeert een gedeelte van Yahoo op te slokken. Vijfentwintig procent van de aandelen wil hij verwerven door de MySpace community, met haar meer dan 170 miljoen leden, in de aanbieding te doen.
En is dit slim? Analisten hebben het idee dat MySpace over haar top is. Facebook zingt weer het hoogste lied, sinds zij voor een paar weken terug haar volledige community openlegde middels het aanbieden van een stel API’s. In ieder geval een interessante ontwikkeling, die veel duidelijk zal maken over de posities die bepaalde communities innemen. Is het misschien denkbaar dat communities a la MySpace in de loop der haren verdwijnen doordat haar leden het zat zijn? En zo ja, wat is dan de Next Big Thing?
